Green Key is the first eco-label dedicated to tourism establishments in France. Launched in the late 1990s for campsites, then expanded to hotels in the mid-2000s, it now recognizes holiday rentals, guesthouses, tourist residences, holiday villages, restaurants, and youth hostels that are actively engaged in continuous environmental improvement.
But not every establishment can aspire to this prestigious label. Backed by a stringent certification process, each property wishing to obtain the much-coveted distinction must complete several key steps:
- Submission of a complete application file answering the 120 questions of the Green Key framework ;
- An on-site audit to verify and complete the application ;
- Final validation by a certification committee.
The Green Key label promotes a holistic approach to environmental challenges, structured around several key themes:
- Environmental policy ;
- Guest awareness ;
- Water management ;
- Energy management ;
- Waste management ;
- Responsible purchasing ;
- Quality of the living environment.
